German Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) – Full Requirements Overview

German Points Visa (Chancenkarte) – Summary

The German Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a new points‑based immigration pathway that allows qualified individuals to enter Germany without a pre‑existing job offer and stay for up to one year to search for employment. It replaces the old Job Seeker Visa and offers more flexibility, including part‑time work (up to 20 hours/week) and trial work periods with employers.

Two Application Paths

  • Direct Path (No Points Needed): For applicants whose qualifications are fully recognized in Germany as a Fachkraft.
  • Points Path (Minimum 6 Points): Based on qualification recognition, work experience, language skills, age, previous residence in Germany, shortage occupations, and spouse eligibility.

Points Overview

  • Partial recognition of qualification: 4 points
  • 5 years experience (last 7 years): 3 points
  • German B2+: 3 points
  • Age under 35: 2 points
  • Residence in Germany (6+ months): 1 point

Mandatory Requirements

  • Recognized academic or vocational qualification
  • German A1 or English B2
  • Financial proof via a blocked account (~€13,192)

Recognition & Licensing

Qualification recognition can be full, partial, or not recognized. Partial recognition grants 4 points.
Recognition is different from licensing: regulated professions (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, teaching, law) require additional steps such as language exams (B2/C1), knowledge exams, or adaptation training.
