German Points Visa – Chancenkarte
The German Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a new points‑based immigration pathway that allows skilled individuals to enter Germany without a job offer and search for employment for up to one year.
Difference from the Old Job Seeker Visa
The Chancenkarte offers:
- Part‑time work (up to 20 hours/week)
- Trial work periods
- Greater flexibility and integration
Do You Need Points?
1. Direct Path (No Points)
If your qualification is fully recognized as a Fachkraft, you do not need points.
2. Points Path (Minimum 6 Points)
If not fully recognized, you must collect at least 6 points.

1. Anabin Database
Shows recognized universities and degrees.
2. Official Application
- Non‑regulated professions → ZAB
- Regulated professions → state authority
Recognition vs License
Recognition = academic evaluation
License = permission to work in regulated professions

- Nurse missing 6 months training → partial recognition
- Engineer needing extra modules → partial recognition
- Teacher needing pedagogical training → partial recognition

Applicants usually need a blocked account with approx. €13,192.
