
Germany Student Visa – Required Documents (German Embassy)
Preparing the required documents for a German student visa is a crucial step to ensure your application is accepted by the German embassy. To achieve your academic goals successfully, you must prepare all the required paperwork with absolute precision and in full compliance with the strict guidelines.
Required Documents for Germany Student Visa
Applicants must submit the following documents at the German Embassy in Amman when applying for a
national student visa:
- Valid and signed passport with at least two blank pages.
- Recent biometric passport photos (official specifications apply).
- Completed and signed national visa application form (including Section 54 Residence Act).
- Completed and signed address declaration form.
- Proof of payment for German language course or university tuition fees.
- Signed motivation letter and CV.
- Travel health insurance covering the first 3 months.
The visa is typically issued for 12 months. Your passport must be valid for at least 15 months upon arrival in Germany.
Academic Documents
- High school certificate qualifying you for university studies, including transcripts.
- University graduation certificates and transcripts (if applicable).
- Recent proof of university enrollment (if available).
Language Requirements
For German‑taught programs:
- Without preparatory language course: minimum B2.
- With preparatory language course: minimum B1.
Accepted certificates: Goethe, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF.
For English‑taught programs:
Minimum B2 level required. Accepted certificates: TOEFL, IELTS.
Non‑Jordanian Residents
Non‑Jordanian applicants residing in Jordan must provide proof of legal residence, such as a residence permit.
Visa Fees
The visa fee is €75, payable in Jordanian Dinars at the time of application.
Processing Time
Processing usually takes around 4 weeks. In some cases, it may take up to 3 months or longer.
During this period, the embassy does not respond to status inquiries.
Online Application Guidelines
Applications can be submitted through the German Foreign Office online portal under the category:
Study / Search for a Study Place.
- Uploaded documents must be clear, readable, correctly oriented, and under 1 MB each.
- Incorrect uploads or wrong document order may lead to application cancellation.
- The embassy may request additional documents.
- Documents not in German or English must be accompanied by certified translations.
Financial Proof
Students must demonstrate financial means of at least €992 per month,
totaling €11,904 for one full year.
Accepted financial proof:
1) Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)
Must include official bank confirmation showing:
- Total deposited amount.
- Monthly withdrawal limit.
2) Financial Sponsorship (Verpflichtungserklärung)
Must be issued by a sponsor living in Germany and include:
- Purpose of sponsorship (e.g., preparatory course, university studies).
- Duration of sponsorship (minimum one year).
- Proof of financial capability.
Document Certification
Academic certificates must be submitted in original form and certified by the issuing country’s German embassy
or carry an Apostille stamp.
Syrian, Yemeni, and Iraqi certificates cannot currently be certified by the German Embassy in Jordan.
They must be pre‑certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.
Health Insurance
Statutory student health insurance in Germany becomes valid only after university enrollment and permanent residence.
Students arriving before enrollment must obtain private health insurance covering the period before registration.
Some travel insurance or “incoming insurance” policies may exclude long‑term stays, so applicants should check
coverage details carefully.
Travel Bookings
- Hotel reservations or flight bookings are not required for the visa application.
Applicants should book travel only after receiving the visa. - The embassy/consulate is not responsible for any financial loss incurred if non-refundable tickets or bookings are purchased prior to approval.
